NEWS: CCMCC IS DEAD. LONG LIVE THE CNBC

Updated: Sep 3, 2023

THE COUNTY COURT MONEY CLAIMS CENTRE (CCMCC) & THE COUNTY COURT BUSINESS CENTRE (CCBC) HAVE BEEN MERGED.

As of 14/08/2023 the new Civil National Business Centre (CNBC) has replaced the CCMCC and the CCBC. This short article provides a brief outline of the changes for court users.

TOO MANY COURTS: CCMCC, CMOL & CCBC

In 2012, responsibility for issuing all money claims <£100’000 was transferred from the local county courts to a central processing center based in Salford called the CCMCC. Since then it has taken on the additional burden of being responsible for execution including court warrants and Charging Orders together with other duties.

The CCBC based in Northampton was another central processing center but was responsible for online claims made through the Money Claims Online portal (MCOL). The distinction between the 2 processing centers/courts was essentially that the former dealt with paper and had a few judges whom would hear the initial stages of the claim, while the latter dealt with word.docs, pdfs but did not hear cases in person.

CHANGES

The new changes have transferred the responsibilities of the Salford CCMCC to the Northampton CCBC which has been rebranded the ‘Civil National Business Centre’ (CNBC). For the avoidance of doubt, the CCMCC in Salford has been closed and as of 14/08/2023 when issuing a new claim <£100’000, whether online or in hard copy, the correct court address to use is:

THE CIVIL NATIONAL BUSINESS CENTRE (CNBC)

St. Katharine’s House

21-27 St. Katherine’s Street

Northampton

NN1 2LH

DX: 702885 Northampton

Contact telephone numbers will remain the same and for now, the various e-filing addresses are unchanged. However, court users should check the contact details at the central government website before proceeding.

Needless to say, all references to the CCMCC & CCBC in the CPR have been replaced with CNBC.

IMPORTANCE

In an updated to stakeholders, the CNBC has confirmed that it will accept applications up to 01/09/2023 bearing the old names CCMCC and CCBC. Thereafter, incorrectly labelled documents will be returned to sender.
